Funding Programmes for University Spin-offs
The EXIST programmes provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy offer start-up funding for spin-offs from the university. Two programmes are available for the funding of different projects with attractive grants. The "starting business" foundation service provides support to founders from Leibniz Universität in the application and implementation of their projects.

Start-up projects may obtain smaller capital injections through participation in different competitions. Besides the cash prizes (usually minor four-digit amounts, in some cases up to 30,000 €), high-grade non-cash prizes can frequently be won, such as mentorings, free use of office space or PR services. A list of about 90 supraregional competitions with background information and registration deadlines is available from the foundation service.
- Regular competitions
We are pleased to provide background information on participation and support in the submission on request at any time.
While it is very risky for investors to get involved in a start-up, in case of successful development very high returns may be yielded. On the "free" capital market it is particularly two kinds of investors who are of interest: business angels & venture capital companies.
Office Space and Work Areas
People advancing clever ideas, working on prototypes, or scheduling appointments with pilot customers, will quickly ask for first premises suitable for own start-up projects. The foundation service provides consultancy on the various possibilities available in the Region of Hannover. Depending on the existing budget, the required flexibility, and, of course, the equipment, the following opportunities arise, amongst others:
- Office Space
- FabLabs / Maker Spaces
- Hacker Spaces
